UH POPS
The UH Pre-Optometry Professional Society
The University of Houston Pre-Optometry Professional Society (UHPOPS) is a tax-exempt* student organization dedicated to providing a source of information for individuals who are interested in the field of optometry. We aim to offer our members exposure to vision health, as well as to educate our members about the requirements for gaining admission to a professional program.
UHPOPS provides its members with opportunities to obtain first-hand experience with vision care through shadowing positions and volunteer events. In close collaboration with Prevent Blindness Texas, we actively participate in no-cost vision screenings around the city of Houston.
During our bi-monthly meetings, we invite guest speakers such as optometrists and ophthalmologists to speak to our members about their passion for the field of optometry and their own experiences in the profession. Our other guest speakers include representatives from various optometry schools around the nation, along with faculty members and current students from our very own College of Optometry. Our meetings are a gateway to information about leading technology, legislation, and optometry school admissions.
